Still No Power for Some Floridians
Hurricane Irma
Hurricane Irma hit 12 days ago, and 38,000 people in Lee County alone still without power. There are close to 70,000 customers still without power across the state of Florida. Can you imagine what it would be like with no air conditioning, no hot showers, nowhere to charge your phone, no way to access your internet? Hopefully you don’t have to worry, and you’ll be lucky. But if you don’t like gambling, get a residential backup generator for your home, or a commercial backup generator for your work facility or office. Now, keep in mind that ordering your unit, having it delivered and installed, with all the proper permitting takes some time. So the best plan is to start the process now, and get ahead of the storm before another one like Hurricane Irma hits.
Hurricane Irma Power Outage Lawsuit
Hurricane Irma left 16 million people without power, including 4 million in Florida. The power has been out so long, a class-action lawsuit has been filed against Florida Power and Light for being unable to get the power back on, despite a $3 billion grid upgrade completed before hurricane season. The point is, these folks were without power so long, it started to affect their lives, literally.
Nursing Home Tragedy
A Florida nursing home that lost power during Hurricane Irma got so hot, eight of its inhabitants died from heat-related illnesses in the nursing home. The 10th victim, a 94-year-old woman, died in the hospital September 21st. As a result of this tragedy, Florida Governor Rick Scott enacted an emergency bill requiring all nursing homes to have backup power for their air conditioner by November 15th, after which a $1,000 per day fine will be levied on the facility until it complies with the new state mandate.
It can be a life or death situation if you, your family, your loved ones, and coworkers are subjected to power outages that last for extended periods of time in a Florida summer. Don’t wait until tragedy hits home to have a backup power solution.
